REVISION AND UPDATE MANIPULATIONS
(MAITLAND CONCEPT)
Instructor: Pieter Westerhuis Maitland Principal Instructor IMTA.
Duration: 3 days (approx. 35 % Theory and 65 % practical).
Prerequisites: The participants have already been introduced to performing manipulations in a previous course (Maitland level 2B or similar)
Aims of the course:
- The participant will have a deeper understanding of the theoretical background knowledge concerning the application of manipulations.
- The participant will have advanced clinical skills to be able to assess indications and contra-indications for manipulations.
- The participant will have more profound practical skills to perform instability tests and manipulations.
Theoretical background knowledge concerning manipulation will be revised and updated. Special emphasis will be placed on placing anatomical knowledge in its clinical context.
Concerning contra-indications in the practical part, special emphasis will be placed upon specific tests for ligamentous instability and cervical artery dysfunction.
Selected clinical syndromes which are especially relevant in the context of manipulation will be presented and discussed.
With each specific manipulation, the exact setting up will be practiced. Special emphasis will be placed upon evaluating the “end-feel” and the pre-manipulative stretch. The participants will be required to change partners frequently to be able to feel a great variety of different types of spine.
At all stages, before actually performing the manipulative thrust, specific consent of the training partner needs to be asked.
